Did you know October is National Orthodontic Health Month? Now it also happens to be the month when candy seems to be around every corner! Orthodontic health compromises everything from the strength of your teeth, to ensuring only the highest grade of materials is used to get your teeth straight. Though often seen as relating to aesthetic results, braces help with many oral conditions that could lead to problems related to the jaw, chewing and general oral hygiene. If you are currently in treatment, dedicate this month to bringing more awareness of how to keep your teeth and gums strong and healthy. Perhaps refresh yourself of the do’s and don't's during treatment. Avoid the sticky or hard candy, and perhaps decrease your intake of any teeth-staining foods. If you are still considering treatment, talk to the doctor at Cape Cod Braces to find out the short and long term benefits of having Orthodontic treatment, you’ll be surprised at what you will hear. Regardless of whether you are in or out of braces, remember that sugar erodes calcium from the tooth’s enamel, leading to an increased risk of cavities. If you do indulge in a treat or two, brush your teeth as soon as possible afterwards. Mostly have a happy, safe and healthy Halloween!
